Narrows Creek is located in the Harrop-Procter Community Forest across Kootenay Lake from Redfish Creek. Compared to Redfish Creek, the elevation is 300 m higher and the aspect is west rather than southeast. This is our wettest interior location, with a moderate mean annual temperature and lower aridity than our other eight locations. The unlogged 109 year-old stand was a dense mixture of Douglas-fir, western redcedar, western hemlock and lesser amounts of western larch. This location had the highest tree density of our nine locations, and stand volume was higher than at any of the other interior locations. Deadfall was abundant in the unlogged stand. Understory plants and young tree regeneration was extremely sparse in this dense dark forest. Soils were predominantly Podzolic with sandy loam and silt loam textures.
